About Yorkshire

First something about the symbols used to represent Yorkshire, it’s organisations and family heraldry ... on the Yorkshire Symbols page.

Next some of the magazines that cover Yorkshire has their main subject -

  • The Dalesman - a well-established favourite published monthly by Country Publications of Skipton. Widely available from newsagents and via subscription. You can also now buy Dalesman for your tablet or mobile phone. To download the free Dalesman app for Apple or Android, search “Dalesman” in the App Store or Google Play.
  • Down Your Way - a  magazine of nostalgic memories, local history, heritage, traditions and legends, many written by its readers. Also published monthly by Country Publications of Skipton.
  • Yorkshire Ridings -  With a first issue early in 1964 ‘The Ridings – a magazine for Yorkshire folk’, started off as a quarterly. The word Yorkshire was eventually added to the title and publication was increased to six times a year. Also it became a glossy A4 size rather than a pocket-sized A5. It claims to have the largest circulation of any county magazine in Yorkshire with new owners taking charge in 2004.
  • Old Yorkshire - a quarterly magazine that was published in Otley between 1996 and 2004. Name taken from a Victorian magazine covering the same topics that ran from 1881 to 1889.

Then something about the language of Yorkshire ... on the Yorkshire Dialect page.

Finally just a small random selection from the large range of books and DVDs available ... on Yorkshire subjects.
